Recommend me a Comic!

[ Edited ]

So - I'm a self-confessed noob when it comes to comics. I've never read one, ever. I am a literal comic virgin. You get the idea...

This thread is for 2 types of people:

1. People like me, who've little experience of the glories of comics

2. The comic 'hardcore', those guys who know what they're talking about and have a strong opinion on the good and bad of the comic universe

The concept is simple. Newbies post their interests right here, and the experienced readers amongst us recommend a comic they might like.

So - I'll start!

---

MusterBuster:

I'm into all things epic. Which doesn't narrow it down much, but here's some more for you to narrow your search results with.

I like swords. Particularly anything Japanese and katana shaped. I also like assassination stories, sneaky characters with edgy, blunt attitudes and I love a bit of heroics. Think 'Legend of Zelda' meets 'Zatoichi' and you'll be on a very good track :smileyhappy:

Re: Recommend me a Comic!

Muster, I stronly recommend SLAINE. Awesome Celtic warrior badass with some supernatural elements and constant awesome action. If available, I strongly recommend the Books of Invasion, with art by Clint Langley. They're beautiful, and the story is excellent. I'll also say to everyone: forget the movie. Read WATCHMEN. FOrget the movie and read the book.

Re: Recommend me a Comic!

The graphic novel is great. The movie is good, but the comic really is in a league of its own. Character development, back story, locale and time information are explained in great and interesting detail. Unfortunately for Muster, I don't think it's on the Store but it should be eventually. :smileyhappy:

MusterBuster, you might want to check out Neozoic from Red 5 Comics. The first issue is free on the Comics store and issue 2 & 3 are already up and only 79p each. Based in the future in a world were dinosaurs didn't go extinct. It seems fairly epic for sure, has some swords and its share of heroics :smileyhappy:

I don't read a lot of comics... but it was awesome. The art, symbols, characters, everything was awesome!

For new people to comics, check out Fables. It is awesome!

EDIT: Mojo my mate is reading it and I read the first issue he gave me. They were awesome!

Just wondering if you guys will have more Vertigo Comics such as Fables, Lucifer and The Last Man. All great comics. :smileyhappy:

Vertigo is in the same position as Wildstorm, they will need DC to agree first as they own both companies. Hopefully we will see it happen though, I'd really like to see Fables on my PSP aswell.

Re: Recommend me a Comic!

It's sorta obvious and I'm not sure if you can get it but Planet Hulk is fantastic.  It was the first story to make me properly appreciate Hulk as a character and it's follow up World War Hulk is equally impressive.
