I have a Japanese import pink PSP-2000.
When I go to the playstation store on it, it brings me to the US playstation store. Yet, the comic reader on it is Japanese. I have tried to download the US comic reader and it will not install - it simply does not show up. The American comics show up as unsupported data in the Japanese comic reader.
Any ideas on getting comics to display on a Japanese import PSP in the US?

I've spent some time trying to get this to work... no luck. Here's a post I just made on my attempts on my GAP blog:
So a number of folks with imported Japanese PSPs have noticed that the new comic reader is FAIL:

If you have a Japanese PSP:
- You can download the American comic book software onto your Japanese PSP by visiting this site in the PSP browser: http://book.dl.playstation.net/book/psp/NPEG00012/
- The American comic book eboot.pbp file will end up in the PSP > APP > NPEG00012 folder of your PSP's memory stick.
- There is no way to install it. It does not appear in the XMB.
- You can install the Japanese comic book reader from the XMB of the Japanese PSP.
- If you download comics from the US Playstation Store on your Japanese PSP, the Japanese comic book reader says that the US comics are 'unsupported data.'
It seems there are three potential ways to get comics to work on an imported Japanese PSP if you are American:
1) Install the Japanese comic reader, and somehow get copies of Japanese comics OR figure out how to log your PSP into the Japanese playstation store to download them there. I was able to create a Japanese PSN account but beyond that struggled to get access to the Japanese store on my PSP after already configuring it for the US store. I'm sure it's possible but I've no patience for it now.
2) Install the US firmware on the Japanese PSP and all should be easy. However, since I already upgraded to the Japanese 2.6 firmware, the US 2.6 firmware refuses o install - it thinks it already is installed.
So this is my backup plan - I'll wait for the next firmware upgrade and upgrade manually using the US download. This may take months, though. ![]()
3) Install the US comics reader on the Japanese firmware. This seems near impossible but I've tried only basic things. Here's the things I tried that didn't work to save you the trouble:
• Tried putting the US comic book reader eboot file into the Japanese psp/app/npjw00001 folder - corrupted
• Tried putting the US comic book reader npeg00012 directory in the psp/game folder - it shows up in the Games menu, but the PSP says it cannot run it
• Tried putting the US comic book reader eboot file in the psp/game/update folder - corrupted
Anyone make any breakthroughs on this? Any conversations online I've found about it don't seem to have uncovered any workarounds ![]()

I have the same problem (though I'm in the UK so I use the EU store).
Sony seem to have no interest in allowing the Comic Reader to work on a Japanese PSP - a PSP which I bought at launch a LONG time before they started getting unpleasant with Lik-Sang etc.
Considering the amount of money I spend with Sony and the fact I'd willingly buy Comic content, to go out of your way to ensure that the Comic Reader cannot be run from GAME is especially galling. I was able to get Go!Messenger to work on a JP PSP by installing its eboot in GAME, so it's a deliberate choice to prevent the Comic Reader from working similarly.
Boo.

Wow, I'm so glad I read your thread before buying comics!!! I was just about to purchase x-men 1-5 when I looked at theis thread and it prompted me to try out the comic reader on my psp1000 prototype. I didn't know it was a japanese psp when I bought it, but it seems sony doesn't want my money.
Oh well, I'll stick to actual comics then.
funny how I can play games bought in the UK, but not read comics...

OK, so I've just paid for siz comics that I can't read because I've a Japanese import model
. I feel a little like Sony is being inflexible here, it's not like I haven't paid for the hardware and comic downloads and I have plenty of other Sony gaming equipment. Never for a moment thought there would be specific Japanese firmware that limits which applications can be installed.. whats the point? One multi-lingual firmware would be enough shorly? Does it all come down to money?
Guess I'll just have to wait for a new firmware version and try and flash a European copy or maybe Sony could produce multi-region software?
I'm not one for tinkering with the firmware or using pirate utilities.. but that is what many would contemplate in this situation - Sony obviously would not want that!
